It was a wild day for Kansas basketball recruiting, but once the smoke cleared, the Jayhawks landed one out of two of their targets. Four-star recruit Gethro Muscadin will be coming to Kansas, while five-star Isaiah Todd chose Michigan.

Kansas basketball and Michigan were waiting to find out which school five-star prospect Isaiah Todd would decide to attend. The high school phenom scheduled his choice for 6:45 PM tonight, and when the time came, Todd chose Michigan. That may sound like a blow to Kansas, but not all is lost.

Another recruit, four-star Gethro Muscadin, also announced today, but the timing of his commitment came as a surprise to many. Muscadin wasn’t believed to be announcing his decision until November; however, Muscadin tweeted that he would announce his commitment today at noon.

Muscadin is a 6-foot-10-inch prospect out of Louisville, Kentucky that was heavily recruited in the Big 12 by schools like Kansas, Texas Tech, and Kansas State. Muscadin ended up choosing the Jayhawks, as he becomes Kansas basketball’s second recruit of the 2020 class.

Muscadin will join fellow four-star recruit Tyon Grant-Foster, a JUCO transfer that also recently committed to Kansas.

Losing out on Todd wasn’t ideal or very surprising, considering both Rivals and 247 Sports predicted Todd would go to Michigan. At the end of the day, Kansas lost a recruiting battle for Todd to Michigan; however, they also beat their fellow Big 12 members in the recruitment of Muscadin. Take that as you will, but at the very least, Kansas basketball will have Muscadin on their team, instead of having to play against him.

There’s still a long road ahead until the 2020 season, which means there’s plenty of time to land more top-tier recruits. Bill Self and that staff have already laid the groundwork for this class in picking up commitments from solid guys like Muscadin and Grant-Foster. Now, the Jayhawks will just need one or two more pieces to round out another great recruiting class.
