Can Kansas football land four-star recruit Ashaad Clayton?
Since Les Miles has taken over as the head coach for Kansas football, the Jayhawks have seen a serious boost in recruiting. Can Miles keep it up by landing Ashaad Clayton, a four-star running back?
So far, Kansas football is on pace to have a solid recruiting class in 2020. Per 247 Sports, the Jayhawks are ranked number 35 in the nation right now with their 2020 class and fourth in the Big 12. That’s a far cry from previous years, where Kansas routinely ranks at the bottom of the Big 12 in recruiting.
If Kansas football really wanted to make a statement in the recruiting scene, acquiring four-star running back Ashaad Clayton would certainly do the trick.
Clayton is six feet tall and 200 pounds, he comes from Warren Easton High School in New Orleans, Louisiana. Speaking of Louisiana, Les Miles is doing a fantastic job of recruiting that state. Of the 2020 class, four recruits are from Louisiana, that’s tied for the most from any one state.
Clayton would be an unbelievable asset to the Kansas backfield. According to his scouting report, Clayton has an 11 seconds flat 100-meter dash time, in addition to being able to run through tackles.
So far, Clayton has been highly recruited by the traditional powers of college football. LSU, Alabama, and Georgia are all in the mix in addition to Kansas. Both Rivals and 247 have Clayton going to LSU; however, the fact that Kansas football is competing with powerful SEC schools is a sign that Les Miles can recruit. Clayton took a visit to Kansas earlier this year back in February:
Should the Jayhawks land Clayton, it would be a huge win for Miles, in addition to securing one of the more talented recruiting classes in recent years for Kansas. The running back duo of Lousianna natives Pooka Williams and Ashaad Clayton would be fun to watch and could do some serious damage on the field.
Les Miles may only when a few games this season, but recruiting has already been better than it has been in recent years. Even if Kansas doesn’t land Clayton, the fact that they were in the conversation with schools like LSU and Georgia is a good sign for the future.
