Kansas Heads-Up
The big storyline this week for Kansas is that they will be without running back Khalil Herbert, who decided to redshirt this season and is planning on transferring. Herbert led the Jayhawks in both rushing yards and rushing touchdowns prior to his departure.
It seems that freshman Velton Gardner will pick up Herbert’s workload. Last week against TCU, Gardener rushed for a 45-yard touchdown, the first of his career.
Linebacker Dru Prox and tight end James Sosinski are both listed as questionable for this week. Prox is Kansas football’s leading tackler this season, while Sosinski caught a touchdown pass in the first game if the season against Indiana State.
#6 Oklahoma Heads-Up
Oklahoma is coming off a dominant victory over Texas Tech 55-16. The Sooners will come into Lawrence today before traveling to Austin next weekend to take on their rival: Texas.
Receiver CeeDee Lamb had a big week last week for the Sooners, catching seven passes for 185 yards and three touchdowns. Charleston Rambo also had two receptions for an incredible 122 yards.
According to The Oklahoman, prolific quarterback and Heisman candidate Jalen Hurts is feeling “under the weather a little bit.” It’s assumed that the perceived illness is minor; however, it wouldn’t be surprising if Hurts is pulled from the game quickly if Oklahoma goes up big.
Hurts lead the Sooners in both passing and rushing yards. He has the second-highest amount of points scored so far this season.
This is going to be a tough game for the Jayhawks who haven’t beat the Sooners in over 20 years. Oklahoma is ranked number six in the nation for a reason, and the talent difference between Kansas and the Sooners is incredible.
There’s one thing to remember though: It’s all about the better team today. While Oklahoma is better than Kansas on paper, that doesn’t mean the game is going to shake out that way.
The odds for Kansas are incredibly long, but any team can lose on any given day.
