It’s more likely you live 100 years than Kansas beating Oklahoma

According to the United Kingdom Office for National Statistics, you have a better chance of living to be over 100 years old than Kansas football does of winning this Saturday. You may doubt it, but it’s true.

Women generally have a higher life expectancy than men; however, both men and women of any age have at least a five percent chance to reach 100 years. As a matter of fact, an 18-year-old male has a 21% chance of living getting to 100, while an 18-year-old female has a 27.5% chance.

A century is such a long time that it’s pretty difficult to wrap your head around just how long that is. To put this into perspective, folks that were born 100 years ago in 1919 would have been alive for 18 presidents and witnessed the Great Depression, World War II, as well as Apollo 11.

Living to over 100 years is quite the feat, yet it wouldn’t be quite as impressive as the Jayhawks picking up the win this Saturday over the Sooners.
