The Jayhawks took a tough loss yesterday at home to West Virginia in a close ballgame. Kansas football still had some highlights throughout the day though.

It was an unfortunate loss for Kansas football yesterday. It seemed like they might finally get over the hurdle and begin Big 12 play with a win, but it just wasn’t in the cards for the Jayhawks.

Despite the loss, the progress of this team and the program as a whole is undeniable. Unlike previous regimes, the Jayhawks don’t look like a team that doesn’t belong on the field. Moral victories aren’t what fans necessarily want to see, but Kansas fans better get used to them if they want their team to eventually rise to relevancy.

Without a doubt, this probably won’t be the last close game Kansas will lose this year, and that’s all part of the rebuilding process. The plays the team and the fact they didn’t quit are testaments to how well this coaching staff has done at getting kids to buy-in.

Here are Kansas vs. West Virginia highlights from the Jayhawks’ 24-29 loss:

The star of the game for Kansas was wide receiver Andrew Parchment, who hauled in five catches for 132 yards and two touchdowns.

Dru Prox, Mike Lee, and Kyron Johnson also all had big days on defense, with each racking up nine total tackles.

Kansas’ ground game struggled this week, only putting up a total of 142 yards after rushing for 329 yards the week before at Boston College.

The Jayhawks will look to rebound next week on the road against another team that took a tough loss this week at home: TCU.

One thing this Kansas team has done a great job of all year is responding to adversity. The game next Saturday will be another test to see just how dedicated Kansas is to rebuilding the football program.
