After a monumental win last week on the road against Boston College, the Kansas football program looks like it might finally be on the right track. The Jayhawks will take on West Virginia this week and look to improve to 3-1 on the season. Join the Through the Phog team as they predict the outcome of the game against the Mountaineers.

After picking up one of the most important wins in program history, the Jayhawks set out to begin conference play at home tomorrow. According to the odds, this game should be close, with West Virginia being a slim 4.5-point favorite over Kansas football.

Similar to Kansas, West Virginia is also coming off a big win. The Mountaineers took down the NC State Wolfpack in Morgantown last week by a score of 44-27. Both teams are 2-1 and looking to set themselves up with a win heading into conference play.

Predictions:

Dylan Morrell, Site Expert:

  • Despite big offensive performances last week, I doubt either team will be able to match their output from their previous games. West Virginia hasn’t done much on the ground this season, so I see them as an offense that’s going to rely heavily on throwing the football. So long as the Kansas defense shows up, the Jayhawks should take care of business. 27-16 Kansas.

  • West Virginia and Kansas are nearly identical. Both teams have respectable defenses, solid running backs, but not so reliable quarterbacks. This type of game is one on the backs of the big boys upfront. With that being said, I trust West Virginia’s offensive line more than Kansas’ at the moment. 28-21 West Virginia.

  • The Boston College game looked like it was going to be another one of those weeks for the Jayhawks. After trailing 17-7 it seemed like a rout was ensuing, but the Jayhawks didn’t take that to heart. Thanks to Khalil Herbert and Pooka Williams gaining over 100 yards on the ground each, the Jayhawks picked up the win 48-24. Carter Stanley looked good, completing 74% of his throws despite one interception. I think if the Jayhawks continue that momentum against a shaky West Virginia team they will be well on their way to 3-1. 17-7 Kansas.
