The best part about the Kansas football win over BC? It wasn’t a fluke

Kansas football has been a perennial loser over the past 10 years. The wins have been few and far between, and when they do come, they’re not because the Jayhawks were necessarily the better team.

The Jayhawks’ win over Boston College seemed odd. It was a strange feeling to watch the Jayhawks win a game in a dominant fashion. The victory was outright and Kansas outplayed their opponent. How often has that happened in the past few seasons?

If you open up the Kansas football history books, they aren’t too attractive. The few wins the Jayhawks have amassed haven’t been that impressive. Sure, Kansas beat a terrible Rutgers team pretty bad last year, and somehow beat Texas in 2016, but those wins weren’t domination of a solid football team. Even though the win over Texas was great, Texas was in a down year and it wasn’t exactly a pretty win.

That’s why the victory over Boston College is so big. The Eagles were a solid football team that was predicted to be Kansas by three touchdowns. It was a season and program-defining win that may lead to a brighter future.

Carter Stanley and the offense looked like no offense has looked at Kansas since Todd Reesing was taking the snaps. The Jayhawks were exciting to watch on that side of the ball. Andrew Parchment and Kwamie Lassiter II looked like big-time playmakers at the receiver position, and you can’t say enough about the running backs. Pooka Williams and Khalil Herbert torched the Boston College defense. Herbert especially looked good on his 87-yard run that was nearly a touchdown.

Even though they gave up 24 points, the Kansas defense did a fantastic job. The Eagles scored all of their points in the first half, and the Jayhawks shut them out in the second half. That’s a great sign that this defense can adjust and when their initial game plan may not suffice.

Overall, it was a great team win for the Kansas Jayhawks, and it’s hard not to be super excited heading into conference play. The Jayhawks take on West Virginia next week in Lawrence at 3:30, and will look to improve to 3-1 on the season.
