In their big win over Boston College, Kansas played a fast-paced, high tempo offense that produced big results. It seems like Kansas football might have finally unlocked the potential of their offense after only scoring seven points the previous week.

Kansas football just picked up their first road win vs. a power-5 team in what feels like forever. It’s an amazing feeling, especially after last week’s debacle.

The difference between the Kansas offense in week two and week three was night and day. Against Boston College, the Jayhawks looked like they might just be able to compete in the Big 12 this year; and it’s all thanks to the new offensive look.

To be blunt, the Kansas offense was brutally terrible in their first couple games. Even in their win against Indiana State, the Jayhawks offense looked unsure; until the final drive that is.

When things got dicey down the stretch, Kansas was forced to throw the ball and play at a quicker tempo than they were accustomed to. Rather than crumbling, Carter Stanley led the Jayhawks to a touchdown and a win.

Against Boston College, Kansas football applied that same tempo to their entire gameplan, and it worked beautifully. The Kansas offense seems to have finally found an identity through a fast-paced offense.

Stanley played an exceptional game, throwing for 238 yards and three touchdowns in the win. The passing game opened things for Khalil Herbert and Pooka Williams to both rack up huge amounts of yards. Herbert rushed for 187 yards and one touchdown, while Williams picked up 121 yards and a touchdown as well.

The offense really was firing on all cylinders, and it looks like the Jayhawks have a legit chance next week against West Virginia. Carter Stanley, the receiving corps, and the running backs really stepped up this week.

But would the offensive explosion have happened if Kansas won the Coastal Carolina game? Think about it, imagine Pooka Williams rips off a long run and the Jayhawks beat the Chanticleers 14-12. A win is a win, but the drastic change that the offense saw between week two and week three might not happen if there isn’t a huge sense of urgency like there was after the loss.

While the loss stung, Kansas might have turned the corner thanks to a low-level Sunbelt Conference team that won their first game against a power-five team ever.
