2. Carter Stanley likely isn’t the guy

Carter Stanley was astoundingly bad against Coastal Carolina. That’s harsh, but Stanley would probably agree.

After an efficient performance last week, Stanley’s second showing as the Jayhawks’ starting QB went worse than anyone expected.

Stanley connected on 13 of his 19 passing attempts for 107 yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions.

It was tough to watch all around: Stanley’s two interceptions were egregious, he had no command of the pocket — even when he had time to throw, and he routinely missed incoming Coastal Carolina blitzes and audibles in coverage.

By the fourth quarter, Stanley’s inconsistency throwing the football led to all trust being lost from the coaching staff. After losing that trust, his job was to just say “hike” and hand the football off.

The Jayhawks couldn’t consistently throw the ball past 5 yards — Miles was forced to run the ball on almost every down. That led to constant gap blitzes by Coastal Carolina and ultimately, a stagnant offense for the Jayhawks.

Following the loss, when asked about Stanley’s status as the starting quarterback, Miles said he wants to “watch his film” before making any type of decision.

That may be the right thing to say at the moment, but everyone who watched that game can see the writing on the wall: Stanley isn’t a consistent enough passer to win games against Big 12 opponents.

Miles may be a stubborn football coach, but he’s not an idiot. If Stanley can’t get the job done against Coastal Carolina, he likely can’t get the job done against K-State. I know that, you know that, and Miles knows that.

With that being said, don’t be shocked to see junior QB Thomas MacVittie getting snaps with the first-team offense in practice and against Boston College.
