Despite the depressing loss, the Jayhawks still had some nice plays against the Chanticleers. Hopefully, Kansas football will rebound next week at Boston College despite being heavy underdogs against the Eagles.

In the Jayhawks 12-7 home loss to Coastal Carolina, Les Miles’ uphill battle just got a little steeper. Kansas football must be able to consistently beat teams like Coastal Carolina if they want respect in the world of college football and in the Big 12.

An embarrassing loss, the Jayhawks did make some big plays during the game. The defensive units made some big hits, and the running back duo of Khalil Herbert and Pooka Williams was effective on the ground.

Watch the Kansas football highlights from last Saturday’s game below:

All the Jayhawks needed to win this game was one more touchdown. It seemed like every time Khalil Herbert or Pooka Williams touched the ball, it might be a big play that would save the game. That “big play” never came to pass. Kansas’ one-dimensional offense became predictable and eerily similar to last year’s offensive strategy of “give the ball to Pooka and hope for the best.”

In their last three offensive possessions, the Jayhawks turned the ball over on downs. Kansas ended up 0/3 on fourth down conversions, trying three different running plays with little no success.

The Jayhawks have to be consistent from the first whistle to the last whistle if they are going to win games this season. After Kansas came out and scored on its opening drive, they never made a huge offensive drive the rest of the night.

The Kansas defense will also need to step up in the event the offense can’t. The defense didn’t force a single turnover, despite forcing two in week one and playing against a quarterback who threw four interceptions in week one.

Kansas will face Boston College next Friday on the road. Les Miles and his team will look to upset the Eagles and pick up Kansas’ first win of the year against an FBS team.
