Through the Phog predicts Kansas football vs. Indiana State
In a matter of hours, the Les Miles era of Kansas football is set to begin against the Indiana State Sycamores. The writers at Through The Phog have made their predictions for the upcoming matchup.
(Scroll for the predictions, keep reading for my soliloquy)
At 11 am today, Les Miles will jog out of the tunnel as head coach of the Kansas Jayhawk football team. Take a second and think about that last sentence. Les [EXPLETIVE] Miles is coaching at [EXPLETIVE] KANSAS.
In the wildest dreams of not only Kansas football fans, but followers of college football as well, this a day few predicted being even remotely possible. And if asked two years ago, the grass-eating national championship-winning movie star from LSU would probably agree with that sentiment.
Nevertheless, this is a day that should belong to the intrepid and faithful Jayhawk fans. Those are the fans who watched the games every weekend, bought tickets/merchandise, and remained invested in the Kansas Football program.
For the first time in a decade, those fans will wake up every Saturday knowing their team has a competent head football coach. Not a coach who failed at bigger programs, a young up and comer, or a nice guy who was hired just because of his ties to the state of Texas; they now have a coach who has proven his worth at the highest levels of the game.
Those fans had every right to give up their fandom. But that loyalty has paid off. The Jayhawk faithful finally have a coach worth believing in.
(Soliloquy over, thanks for reading)
Kansas is set to take on their week one opponent, the Indiana State Sycamores, out of the Missouri-Valley Conference in the FCS. The writers here at Through the Phog have come together to provide the most accurate score predictions on the internet:
- Kansas is only a 4.5 point favorite, so I don’t see them pulling away in this one. We lost most of our front seven, so I’m expecting Indiana State dual-threat QB Ryan Boyle to gash the Jayhawk defense a few times. Kansas should be able to run the ball effectively though, outpacing the Sycamores. 31-24 Kansas
(Me) Nick Streeter, Contributor:
- With Indiana State returning all but one starter from last year’s offensive line, they should provide plenty of protection for their talented dual-threat QB Ryan Boyle. I think he’ll challenge Kansas early, but the Jayhawk defense should settle in. If Kansas plays to their strengths in running the ball, and their QB can get the ball to Kwaime Lassiter and Daylon Charlot consistently, I see the Jayhawks coming out on top. 28-17 Kansas.
Austin Fitzgerald, Contributor:
- This is going to be probably the easiest game on the schedule for the Jayhawks. Returning almost all of their defense from a year ago the chemistry will be flowing right from the kickoff, although the loss of Joe Dinnen and Daniel Wise will be evident. With Pooka Williams suspended I look for senior transfer Daylon Charlot to make an immediate impact from supposed starter Thomas MacVittie. If the Jayhawks can contain receiver Dante Hendrix and force early game interceptions as they did so well last season, I see them pulling away quickly. 24-14 Kansas.
