In a thrilling, 27-17 win, Kansas football starts off the first game of the Les Miles era 1-0.

It’s a long season, but the Kansas Jayhawks football team took a step in the right direction today. There were some mistakes and early season questionable play-calling, but the season is off to as good of a start as it could be.

The question mark of who the Jayhawk’s quarterback was finally revealed today to be senior Carter Stanley. He did not disappoint. Stanley threw for 241 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. It’s been a long time since Kansas has had a truly competent QB, but they may have found their guy.

As expected Khalil Herbert carried the runningback workload today in the absence of Pooka Williams, who will be back from his suspension for next week’s game vs. Coastal Carolina. Herbert rushed for 88 yards on 17 carries.

Kansas’  stars of the game though were their wide receivers. Junior Andrew Parchment led the Jayhawks in catches and receiving yards with eight receptions and 121 yards. Parchment made big plays for Kansas throughout the game and had a major catch down the stretch to help the Jayhawks retake the lead late in the fourth quarter.

The Kansas defense was solid as ever, holding the Sycamores to just three points in the first half, and only giving up a total of 10 points over the course of the game. Defensive back Hasan Defense scored the Jayhawk’s first points of the season on a pick-six in the first quarter. Jeremiah McCullough also made a key interception which stopped an Indiana State offense that was threatening to score.

In special teams, Kansas kicker Liam Jones went 1/2 on field goals and 1/2 on extra points. The missed extra point nearly cost Kansas, as Indiana State went ahead 16-17 with about five minutes to go in the game. Luckily, the missed extra point didn’t come back to haunt Kansas this time.
