Kansas lands four-star 2019 point guard Dajuan Harris
After much uncertainty to complete its roster, Kansas basketball filled its final scholarship spot with four-star point guard Dajuan Harris.
Coming out of this past season, Kansas fans were left wondering how the roster look for the 2019-20 season. Forward KJ Lawson, who was a key piece for the Jayhawks off the bench transferred to Tulane after his brother forward Dedric Lawson declared for the draft with every intention of staying in the draft regardless of the outcome.
Former five-star guard Quentin Grimes came to Kansas as a starter alongside fellow freshman point guard Devon Dotson. Things didn’t pan out for Grimes and he ended up transferring to Houston.
Point guard Charlie Moore, who was originally the starter for the University of California transferred to Kansas before last season right around the time the Lawson brothers also transferred and had to sit out the year.
Moore never really found his groove with the Jayhawks logging only about 13 minutes per game last season and transferred to DePaul.
They also lost LaGerald Vick to graduation after he left the team due to “personal matters” for the last fourth of the season.
All in all, Kansas had five scholarships for the upcoming season.
After a long and uncertain offseason, swinging and missing on a lot of big name recruits, the Jayhawks finally found their footing late in recruiting and filled their 13th and final scholarship.
DaJuan Harris, a four-star point guard out of Columbia Missouri attended Rock Bridge High School and plays AAU basketball for the MOKAN Elite team. He announced his commitment via Twitter after there were rumors he might have considered reclassifying to the Class of 2020.
He originally committed to play for Missouri State on August 11, but decommitted from there on June 1 and then committed to the Jayhawks a month and a half later.
"“He is a freak athlete who leads any team by contributing whatever it takes. He’s a stabilizing factor on every team.” Lisa Sanbdothe Braun said."
Last season in the EYIBL regular season he averaged 7.2 points along with 7.1 assists and 1.6 steals.
"“Since the first time I saw him, his frame has steadily gotten better, and he gives Kansas a true point guard who can facilitate and create,” Evan Daniels of 247 sports said. “I think he fits that mold. He has tremendous passing skills, he can pass off the live dribble well and he’s creative. And on the other end, he moves well laterally, he’s pesky and he’s tough.”"
What makes this even more special for Harris is fellow players on the team sophomore Ochai Abaji, freshman Christian Braun and junior Chris Teahan all played on the same AAU team MOKAN Elite with him.
Harris is sixth player and fifth freshman to join the Jayhawks along with Tristan Enaruna, Isaac McBride, Braun and Jalen Wilson with the other being former Iowa Hawkeye Isaiah Moss, who is a senior grad transfer.
Besides getting offers from Kansas and Missouri State, he was also recruited by Missouri, Texas and Tulsa.
