Where will former Jayhawk LaGerald Vick land in tonight’s 2019 draft?

The 2019 NBA Draft is coming up and former Kansas guard LaGerald Vick looks to find himself a spot on an NBA roster.

Ever since the departure of guard LaGerald Vick, Kansas basketball fans have been wondering what his future held amid what was a very up and down season for the Jayhawk senior.

That all could change tonight as the 2019 NBA draft is set to get underway from the Barclays Center in New York.

On February 7, it was announced on Twitter that Vick had some “personal matters” that he need to attend to in Memphis and thus he took a leave of absence from the team. Since that point, he did not return to Kansas and has continued to play basketball and is looking for an opportunity to be selected in the NBA draft.

“I don’t know enough on LaGerald to comment on what people are probably saying,” Self said. “I know that he’s had several workouts and I think he has had some really good workouts and shot it well, but I don’t know how to that translates to a pick.”

He had landed workouts with the New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder and Chicago Bulls and had also worked out for the Charlotte Hornets, where former Kansas star Devonte’ Graham is also at. The New York Knicks workout was on Monday, June 3, according SNY-TV’s Ian Begley.

The New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls and the Oklahoma City Thunder have the third, seventh and 21st picks in the draft, respectively, while Charlotte has the 36th pick which according to a scout with the Hornets, says that is which is more likely where he could get drafted.

“LaGerald is going to get a chance because of his athletic ability and shot making skills” the scout said. “Could I see a team taking a guy like him in the 40s or 50s? Sure,” the scout added. “He has the ability.”

In 23 games with the Jayhawks his senior season he averaged just over 14 points a game, four rebounds and just under two assists.

My prediction: 55th overall to the New York Knicks. If he is going to get picked it would almost certainly be from a team that invited him to a workout, given his sudden absence in the latter half of the season. According to the latest mock draft, New York is slated to get R.J. Barrett at No. 3. After Carmelo Anthony left and Kristaps was traded last year, they have gone into near panic mode  trying to rebuild their roster. With a very slim roster, Vick could get minutes off the bench as a momentum shifter on the offensive end as he shot 45% from 3 a year ago at Kansas
