Former Stephen F. Austin graduate transfer, TJ Holyfield, narrowed his list down to three, Kansas, Texas Tech and Illinois.

Forward TJ Holyfield, a graduate student from Stephen F. Austin, reduced his transfer list down to three schools, one of which includes the Kansas Jayhawks. Holyfield is 6-foot-8 and missed the entire 2018-19 campaign due to a shoulder injury.

Holyfield has already taken visits to both Kansas and Texas Tech and will take his final visit to Illinois on Wednesday, May 1.

During his junior year, Holyfield averaged 12.9 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game. He shot 54.8% from the field while shooting 41.2% (28 of 68) from three.

Holyfield is the all-time leader in blocked shots at Stephen F. Austin.

If he were to choose the Jayhawks, Holyfield would bring athleticism and the ability to shoot from deep. However, Holyfield is more of a low-post player that attacks the basket.

Kansas will more than likely lack shooting next season and Holyfield could help solve the problem, but he will not make a living from outside. Defenders will not be able to leave Holyfield wide open, however, he will need support from other shooters as he will not solve the shooting problem by himself.

The current coach of the Lumberjacks, Kyle Keller, is a former member of Kansas coach Bill Self’s administrative staff. However, the current Illinois coach, Brad Underwood, coached Stephen F. Austin prior to Keller and is the one who recruited Holyfield to become a Lumberjack.

The Jayhawks have missed out on some grad transfers this recruiting season but landing Holyfield could be a big addition to the team. He likely will not be the starter, but he could add energy off the bench and keep Kansas competitive in games.

The Jayhawks have also been listed as finalists on two high school prospects. Tides are beginning to turn for Kansas this recruiting season.
