With National Signing Day in the rearview mirror, Kansas football looks towards its bright future with newly appointed coach Les Miles. Here is a recap of Miles’ first recruiting class at Kansas:

As a program, Kansas football currently rank at 67th place in the Rivals’ Team rankings, the same place as their in-state rival Kansas State.

The Jayhawks’ recruiting class consisted of 19 players, 14 reigning from high school and five coming out of Junior College. On National Signing Day, Kansas snagged nine recruits, including four-star weakside defensive end, Steven Parker.

Parker was originally committed to Texas Tech but after the firing of Kliff Kingsbury, he decommitted and eventually committed to Kansas. The bulk of Parker’s recruiting was done by wide receivers coach Emmett Jones, the former wide receivers coach for Texas Tech.

Another snag on NSD for Kansas was three-star running back Velton Gardner, a friend of Parker. Gardner played quarterback at his high school, Skyline HS, while also leading the team in rushing yards.

The Jayhawks also managed to have a huge pickup when linebacker Gavin Potter signed with the University. Potter had potentially the greatest commitment video of all time as well:

Potter is a three-star recruit who held offers from Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

In their home state of Kansas, the Jayhawks finished the season with three recruits, one of which signed on National Signing Day. Three-star running back Amauri Pesek-Hickson from Blue Valley North high school signed with the University.

Pesek-Hickson is a pass-catching back with a ton of potential and could be critical to Kansas in the future, which is still waiting to see a ruling on freshman running back Pooka Williams’ domestic abuse case. Pesek-Hickson was originally committed to the University of Michigan.

In the JUCO ranks, Kansas found a ton of success with four of its five JUCO recruits being in the top-100 JUCO prospects. The biggest JUCO prospect Kansas found was from the number one rated pro-style quarterback, according to Rivals’, Thomas MacVittie.

Overall, the Jayhawks finished the season with one four-star recruit and 11 three-star recruits.
