Kansas football fans have mixed emotions as the countdown to another season is underway. The Jayhawk players need a positive attitude as summer drills begin.

It’s no secret, it is difficult to be a Kansas football fan. Even the most loyal fans find it difficult to be optimistic as the team begins summer drills. Just imagine how difficult it is for the members of David Beaty’s team. They have no choice but to believe in the system and mentally prepare for the 2018 season.

A year ago, many fans were incredibly enthusiastic about 2017. Coming off the Texas win, the Jayhawks were ready to roll. Exactly the opposite happened and that is history. Fans, coaches, players and opponents must move on. Forget what might have been and focus on the season ahead. There is reason for optimism.

As a matter of fact, this Jayhawk team faced a lot of adversity together. They are mentally tough, experienced and have the core group on both sides of the ball back. Although the group did not accomplish much, another year with offensive coordinator Doug Meacham and defensive coordinator Clint Bowen will make a huge difference.

From outside, the Jayhawk football program is on fire. The dismissal of Athletic Director Sheahon Zenger sent a shockwave through the football program. It signaled what is to many the beginning of the end for David Beaty at KU. On the other hand, the administrative change also provided motivation for the 2018 season.

While everyone knows the pressure is great, Kansas football fans have to stay positive. This could be a fantastic season. Yes, there are many question marks. However, there is every reason to expect good things to happen at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.
