Fans and the media love to rank everything. The latest list of the best college football coaches gives Kansas football fans plenty to consider.

There is a list for just about everything under the sun and beyond. CBS Sports recently compiled a list of the best college football coaches in the Power Five conferences.  As a matter of fact, there is no surprise that Kansas football coach David Beaty is at the bottom.  Of the sixty-five coaches, the head Jayhawk is No. 65.  With a 3-33 record, he deserves it.  On the other hand, he may not get enough credit.

As Beaty might say, “earn it.”  The Jayhawk head coach has not earned enough respect from the media for a place higher in this random poll from the writers at CBS and compiled by Tom Fornelli. Beaty has won more college games than the two Pac 12 coaches ahead of him on the list. Herm Edwards at Arizona State and Jonathan Smith at Oregon State. The writers should at least list Beaty ahead of two guys who have yet to win a game.

As you look closer at the list, there are names of several coaches who were mentioned during coaching searches in Lawrence. North Carolina’s Larry Fedora is No. 43.  Fedora while at Southern Mississippi easily beat the Jayhawks and Turner Gill in 2010.  Fedora has won 43 games over the past 8 seasons in Chapel Hill and coached the Heels to four bowl games.

Former Kansas football assistant Dave Doren is No. 39 on the list of top coaches.  The head coach at NC State and Kansas native has a great track record as college coach. Since 2011, Doren has only one losing season. He’s taken teams to 6 bowl games in the past 7 seasons.

Next: Kansas football better than 9 teams

I doubt if David Beaty reads these polls? I know fans and the players pay attention. It is painful but maybe a little motivation is good for the head coach too.  Beaty doesn’t need to go to a bowl game but a few Big 12 conference victories would be nice.
