The Kansas basketball season ended almost two weeks ago in San Antonio. The best news since the Saturday night is no news from Udoka Azubuike

Almost two weeks since the fabulous 2017-18 Kansas basketball season ended, the Jayhawks are going through a few changes. We expected some of the changes. We may not like seeing some of that some members of the Final Four team are leaving but that’s part of the fun. Most die-hard fans never like to see them depart.

As a matter of fact, many times over the past 18 days I didn’t want to look at social media or email. I did not want to see any news on Udoka Azubuike.  I was surprised how quickly Malik Newman announced he was heading to the pros.  Yes, I hoped he might stay another season.  When Mr. March is on the run, he is so much fun to watch. I wanted to see him dominate October- March next season.

Lagerald Vick certainly didn’t wait long after Newman to confirm he wanted to leave.  I don’t expect Vick to return. On the other hand, I did not expect Svi Mykhailiuk back when he tested the NBA water a year ago. We know how happy Svi he is doing spend another season in Crimson and Blue.

The only word announced on Azubuike over the past week is that coach Self said nothing about the 7-footer from Nigeria at the team’s annual banquet. A healthy Dok showed dramatic improvement this season.  Since the NBA drafts on potential, anything is possible.

Another year working toward a University of Kansas degree is good for any member on the Jayhawk basketball roster. It also never hurts to get another year working with strength and conditioning coach Andrea Huddy. Best of all, Kansas basketball fans know just how much fun it will be to watch Dok play another year for Bill Self.
