Kansas basketball fans continue debating recent online criticisim. A March Madness list includes Jayhawk fans among the nation’s worst.

Are you an obnoxious fan?  I’m sure there are some Kansas basketball fans who others might call obnoxious. I know some who say Jayhawk fans are spoiled but not necessarily obnoxious. Those who are jealous of the basketball team’s success might think Jayhawk fans are obnoxious. How did Kansas fans get this reputation?  During last week’s NCAA Tournament press briefing, one coach praised Kansas basketball fans.

For the past thirty years, the Kansas basketball program has ranked among the nation’s best. As a matter of fact, only one school has more wins in the history of the game than the Jayhawks. Thanks to our friends in Manhattan, the Big Blue Nation will have to wait until next season for another win.  The Crimson and Blue beat both the purple ‘Cats and Big Blue Nation’s Cats this season. A total of four victories.

Are Kansas fans considered obnoxious just because the team wins?  Writers Matt Meltzer and Jeff Zanott for Thrillist, compiled a list of the most obnoxious fans in college basketball.  Only two Big 12 teams made the list. They included Jayhawk fans at No. 15.  West Virginia earned a top 10 spot. A pair of Atlantic Coast Conference teams are in their top 5. One of those teams is in the Sweet 16.

Some of what is written about Kansas basketball fans is accurate. On the other hand, the writers did not need to mention the “arrogant sense of entitlement.”  I doubt if the authors have ever attended a game at Allen Fieldhouse. That might change their opinion. Fans will appreciate one fact they included. Kansas basketball fans are not as “hateable” as Duke or Kentucky.
