The Kansas basketball team is back in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 and thankful Udoka Azubuike is healthy. Jayhawk fans love the 7-footer. He’s the key to beating Clemson.

On March 7, Jayhawk fans learned the bad news that the Kansas basketball team’s beloved 7-foot center was injured again. On that Wednesday afternoon, nobody knew for sure how serious Udoka Azubuike’s knee sprain was.  The first report indicated a minor knee sprain. It didn’t matter. Dok was out for the Big 12 Tournament.  How would the team play without him?

More important, how would Dok handle another injury.  After missing the majority of his freshman season with a wrist injury, was he mentally able to handle the disappointment? The Kansas basketball training, medical staff is outstanding but all fans felt bad for Dok.  This team needs him and he needs to be in on the action.

Jayhawk fans around the country celebrated the news Dok would be available to open the NCAA Tournament. He only played a couple of minutes in the first-round victory over Penn. It was wonderful to see him get back on the court.  Coach Self saved him for Saturday’s Round of 31 matchup with Seton Hall. Without him, the Jayhawks probably don’t win.

While the Pirates Angel Delgado is big and an outstanding player, Dok is bigger and has just a bright a basketball future.  As a matter of fact, Dok intimidated Delgado. He was a different player with the Jayhawk big man in the lineup. Delgado also made Dok and Jayhawk fans mad when he pulled that flop stunt.  Despite the lousy call, Jayhawk fans and many others have had a lot of fun with Dok’s reaction.

Next: One common opponent give KU advantage over Clemson

In addition to their speed, the Jayhawks have a size advantage with Dok heading into the Sweet 16 matchup with Clemson. The Tigers don’t have anyone on their roster taller than 6-foo-9. With a Friday tip in Omaha, Dok also has an extra day to let his knee recover. He is also returning to the starting lineup, according to Gary Bedore in the Kansas City. The Jayhawks proved they can win without him. On the other hand, with Dok this team can reach the Final 4.
