Kansas basketball fans were happy to see Frank Mason back in Lawrence. The Jayhawk hero is also back on court following his December foot injury.

Television cameras love Frank Mason. Kansas basketball fans love him too. When the Jayhawks played Stanford at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento just before Christmas. Frank made sure he was there to see the team win. He spent a considerable about of time talking with the play by play team during the game.  Mason is now known for a Devonte Graham smile but the energy in his personality comes through fine on television.

During the NBA All-Star weekend, Mason returned to Lawrence. I’m sure head coach Bill Self and his Jayhawk teammates enjoyed seeing him prior to the West Virginia game.  ESPN cameras found him that night too. He looked good and is given credit for helping the team rally past the Mountaineers. According to several published reports, after the Allen Fieldhouse video board showed Frank, the Jayhawks made their final come-from-behind run to win.

The reigning college basketball national player of the year has had a difficult start to the new year.  He injured his foot in a New Year’s game with Memphis.  As a matter of fact, Kansas basketball fans saw Frank fly through the air and fall hard many time. We always thought he was seriously injured.  He always got up and kept going.  He didn’t this time and medical staff carried him off the court.

The good news is that Frank returned to action Thursday in Oklahoma City. Frank may be the backup but often out performs starting point guard De’Aaron Fox.  The first-round draft pick Fox was absent in Frank’s return. Despite that, coach Dave Joerger played Mason just 13 minutes. He scored 6 points on 1-4 shooting and he hit 4 of 4 free throws in a loss. On Saturday against the Lakers, Frank played 14 minutes, scored six points, had 6 assists and 3 rebounds in another loss. Through 31 games, Frank is averaging 7 points and 2.1 rebounds. All Kansas basketball fans are thankful he is back in action.
