Kansas basketball: Who has advantage with 5 games left?
By Stan Unruh
The Kansas basketball chase for another Big 12 title is in the final weeks. The Jayhawks have an advantage, or do they?
Kansas basketball fans and many others are debating who has the advantage in the race for the Big 12 Conference title. As a matter of fact, they are correct. When you consider this wacky Big 12 season, any guess on which team has the edge is probably correct. As we’ve seen, every team is more than capable of beating another at any time.
With five games remaining, Big 12 leading Texas Tech has two home games and 3 on the road. The play the Bears at Baylor Saturday and will go to Stillwater to face the Cowboys Tuesday. Considering what has happened over the past month, just attempt to determine who will win those two contests. I know Kansas basketball fans will pull for anyone against the Red Raiders.
The Jekyll and Hyde Cowboys played like the best team in the conference on February 3 at Allen Fieldhouse and in Morgantown a week later. Kansas State ran them off the Gallagher-Iba court on February 14. Baylor may be ready for a big weekend. The Bears have won four straight including a huge overtime victory in Austin. It might be the perfect time for Scott Drew to help Hall of Fame coach Bill Self.
The Jayhawks should have an advantage with a pair of home games ahead. On the other hand, a Saturday-Monday with West Virginia and Oklahoma is no picnic. As we’ve seen this season, Allen Fieldhouse is also no guarantee.

There are five regular season games left. The next two weeks will provide suspense, amazing performances and nail-biting finishes. Nobody knows how it will end. That is why it is so much fun. We can count on one thing. Coach Self has won 13 straight Big 12 titles for a reason and will have his team prepared.
