Some Kansas Football fans are still divided over the Charlie Weis era in Lawrence. The former Jayhawk coach received plenty of attention Super Bowl week.

Kansas football fans don’t miss the Charlie Weis era in Lawrence. They may not like how or when he was fired. In hind sight, some don’t understand why Sheahon Zenger hired the former Notre Dame head coach and New England Patriots Assistant. Weis only won six games during just over 2 seasons and 4 games of the 2014 season. As a matter of fact, fans have not heard much from him since.

The Weis name appeared in the news a few day ago when Florida Atlantic named Charlie Weis, Jr. as the new offensive coordinator for Lane Kiffin. Many on campus at the University of Kansas had great things to say about the younger Weis. He arrived with his dad in 2011 and impressed everyone as a KU student to football coaches’ meetings.

His dad also appeared this past week in the ESPN 30 for 30 episode “The Two Bills.”  The former assistant coach of the New York Giants worked for head coach Bill Parcels and with Bill Belichick. I don’t know when they filmed the Weis segments. However, he looked good and did a nice job sharing his memories of the two great coaches. He should look great  considering all the money he’s been paid not to coach.

Weis is making the most of the Patriots continued success. With another trip to the Super, Weis did a number of radio and television appearances over the past couple of weeks. He loves to talk. The coach discussed his son’s new job, Tom Brady, mentioned Kansas and much more.

I didn’t hear most of the Weis comments over the past week. Nobody specifically asked him about his days running Kansas football. He brought it up.  I still wish he had experienced just a taste of the success he left in the NFL. Four Super Bowl wins led to only 41 victories as a college head coach.
