Kansas football fans have the opportunity to watch former Jayhawks in All-Star action Sunday. Three former members of David Beaty’s team will play in the Tropical Bowl.

Just when you thought the college football season was over there are more games. As a matter of fact, the college All-Star game season begins this weekend. Current and former Kansas football players are scheduled to participate on the same team in in Daytona Beach Florida’s Tropical Bowl. It’s not the biggest and best of the All-Star games but will give FBS players a chance to show off to NFL scouts.  The game kicks off at 9a.m. EST and is available on  FloFootball.com on Roku TV

Jayson Rhodes, a member of the 2017 Jayhawk team is in Florida to work out and “interview” for a chance to play in pros. The 6-foot-4, 300-pound offensive lineman started 11 games and played in 14 for David Beaty the past two season. The Houston, Texas native who also attended Blinn College is a good student. He was named to the  Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll and Athletic Director’s Honor Roll last spring. Those honors may be as important as what he does on the field this weekend.

Rhodes, named the top offensive lineman after the Jayhawk win over Texas in 2016, will see two former Jayhawk teammates on his All-Star game squad. The American team roster includes Quarterback Montell Cozart and Wide Receiver  LaQuvionte Gonzalez.

Two former Jayhawks had outstanding 2017 seasons

Cozart had a great senior season after transferring to Boise State. The Kansas City native threw 10 touchdown passes for the Broncos who finished 11-3. As a matter of fact, Cozart also ran for 361-yards and four more scores and played in Boise’s Las Vegas Bowl victory over Oregon on December 16.

Next: Good news for Jayhawk football defense

After a great 2016 season, Kansas football coach David Beaty dismissed Gonzalez from the team in July of 2017. The speedster found a place on the roster of the Southeastern University. He had an outstanding season for the NAIA school located in Lakeland, Florida.  Among the highlights of his season, a 53-yard touchdown pass reception in the Fire’s NAIA playoff game loss to Lindley College.
