Kansas basketball will face angry Iowa State team
By Stan Unruh
The Kansas basketball team returns to Allen Fieldhouse Tuesday night. The Jayhawks will face a desperate Iowa State team.
The Kansas basketball team picked up a big road win Saturday night in Fort Worth. They will face an angry Iowa State team looking to avoid a fourth straight loss to open conference play. The Cyclones lost their second straight overtime game Saturday afternoon. As a matter of fact, the ‘Clones shot slightly better against Oklahoma State— 40 percent. On the other hand they did miss their first 10 of 11 shots to open the second half. The Cowboys beat ISU 96-87 in Stillwater.
This is not the Iowa State team we are used to seeing. They have struggled hitting shots. A week ago, there was no Hilton Magic as Texas beat the Cyclones in overtime 74-70. ISU shot only 36 percent in the setback and just 25 percent from beyond the arc. That doesn’t sound like Iowa State.
The first indication the Cyclones might have a tough season came in their exhibition opener. They beat MIAA, Division 2 Emporia State by just 9. In their season opener, Missouri beat the ‘Clones by 15. Freshman standout Michael Porter played just 15 minutes and scored just 2 points in that early November game.
Jayhawks can’t overlook the Cyclones
Hall of Fame coach Bill Self won’t let the Jayhawks rest on their TCU win. Iowa State has some fresh help who is just getting up to Big 12 speed. Freshman guard Lindell Wigginton scored 23 against Kansas State. It was the 6-foot-2 guard’s Big 12 debut.

The purple team won that conference opener in Ames. Wigginton is averaging 14 points a game just behind senior guard Donovan Jackson’s 16-point average and just ahead of redshirt-junior guard Nick Weiler-Babb’s 12 points a contest. Expect the experienced Jayhawk backcourt to give them plenty of trouble Tuesday.
