Christmas is still a day or two away but Santa brought home a nice present for David Beaty and the Kansas football team Friday.  Pooka Williams used this new, December early signing period to ink a scholarship offer from the Jayhawks.  As a matter of fact, he Jayhawks are celebrating all of their early signees but getting Pooka is big news.

Anthony Pooka Williams played for Hahnville High School and led the state of Louisiana in rushing last season.  You know LSU coach Ed Orgeron, Nebraska’s new coach Scott Frost and many other have either visited or made many calls to entice him to their programs.  In addition to Jayhawks, Williams listed the Tigers and Huskers as his final three choices.

Coach Beaty used his social media account to share a few Pooka stats. They include over 3,118 yards, 37 touchdowns and the New Orleans Player-of-the-Year. Williams didn’t rack up these numbers against mediocre competition.

Williams played for a big high school with an enrollment of over 1400 students. He’s played against some talented football programs shined.  Williams and his Hahnville Tigers played in State’s Class 5A title game a few weeks ago. He gained over 200-yards in the loss.

The 5-foot-10, 170-pound Williams was among the original players who verbally committed to play at KU. While some other verbal commits changed their mind in recent weeks, Williams stuck to his original decision. The Kansas football pipeline to Louisiana football talent isn’t gushing but Friday’s good news shows that it is flowing nicely. Kansas football fans will enjoy watching this talented athlete over the next four seasons.
