Kansas basketball fans unhappy with ESPN2 broadcaster
By Stan Unruh
Many Kansas basketball fans are still upset at the announcers assigned to Monday’s Jayhawk game on ESPN2. Social media left little to the imagination.
A few Kansas basketball fans are still hot after putting up with ESPN blabbermouth Bill Walton during a wild Sunday afternoon game December 10, at Allen Fieldhouse. The game didn’t end well. Jayhawk fans were shocked with the outcome and a 2-game losing streak.
On Saturday, Jayhawk fans had hold their breath until the final 21 seconds when Svi Mykhailiuk hit the game winner at Nebraska. As a matter of fact, these are tense times. Most fans are nervous and not sure what to expect. This is uncharted territory for most who follow Hall of Fame coach Bill Self.
Like many fans, Monday’s 6p.m. tipoff with Omaha would provide the chance to relax and enjoy a blowout victory. There was a blowout victory but the ESPN2 announcers left fans tuned into the broadcast wishing Walton would return.
Dan Dakich especially got under the skin of Kansas basketball fans. It was the wrong announcer on the wrong night. Kansas basketball fans didn’t need the stress after the past two weeks and a Monday drop in the AP Poll despite a win on Saturday.
I don’t listen to the games on television. I want to know what is happening on the court. Most television announcers talk about anything and everything except the game you are watching. Dakich seemed to be the expert who thought he knew everything KU. On the other hand, all he did was make Jayhawk fans mad. Dakich is known to make a lot of fans and coaches mad
There are other ways to listen to the Jayhawks

My wife, who watches half of the time and listens to the TV less, even became agitated at the commentary. She couldn’t believe the Dakich comments about the referees and Bill Self. She actually thought some supervisor at ESPN “must have told him to cool it at halftime.”
The University of Kansas Athletics provides an audio source to listen to Brian Hanni and Greg Gurley call the games. I miss Bob Davis too but Hanni and Gurley sound like they are having a ball. They also tell you far more than Dakich about Kansas basketball.
