Kansas basketball: Omaha preview, how to watch

LAWRENCE, KS - DECEMBER 10: Devonte' Graham

The Kansas basketball team will play their second game in three days when they return to action Monday night. Here is what you need to know for the game against Nebraska Omaha.

The Kansas basketball team won a thriller on the road Saturday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln. Bill Self’s Jayhawks handed the Huskers their first home loss. Svi Mykhailiuk’s three-point shot with 21 seconds left followed by Udokah Azubuike blocked shot proved to be the difference in the 73-71 win.

As a matter of fact, the Jayhawk win was not pretty but it was a win against a tough team on the road. It also ended a rare two game losing streak. Udokah Azubuike had a double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds. The Jayhawks discovered that playing through the 7-foot sophomore worked just fine. They need to continue that theme against Omaha.

The Mavericks are in the midst of a difficult season. They have not won a game away from Omaha. Their most prominent loses are to Louisville, Oklahoma and TCU.  They gave up 108 points to the Sooners.

Guard Zack Jackson leads the Mavericks in scoring. The 6-foot-5 junior from Wichita East High School averages 17 points a game. He put up 24-points in the loss at Lloyd Noble Center in Norman and 17 against the Frogs in Fort Worth. He will find it difficult to score that many against Devonte Graham.

The pressure is off the Jayhawks in this matchup. Coach Self will use this game to work on a few things prior to the start of Big 12 play. Omaha may be tired. They played Sunday afternoon. I do expect Jayhawk reserves to see lot of action. Transfer Sam Cunliffe who played an unspectacular 2 minutes in Lincoln should get a lot more court time Monday. The Jayhawks need to start fast and put this one away early.
