MIAMI, FL - DECEMBER 02: Lagerald Vick

Kansas basketball fans and many others are still talking about Saturday’s amazing performance by Lagerald Vick. Social media loved his throw down dunk against the Orange.

Lagerald Vick’s performance in the Jayhawk’s 7th win of the young season is getting plenty of attention. Obviously, teammate Devonte Graham’s 35-points against Syracuse deserved a lot of the credit for the win. On the other hand, it didn’t overshadow Vick’s incredible night.

Before Kansas basketball tipped off against Syracuse in Saturday’s Hoophall Invitational we new Vick’s play was critical to beating the orange zone and expected him to have a big game.  The junior from Memphis got off to an outstanding start with a rebound, a three and an alley-oop. The best oop-dunk came in the second half.

Vick had 7 of the Jayhawks first 9 points and played with the confidence and patience necessary against taller Syracuse defenders. Vick’s role Saturday was critical with Billy Preston still waiting for a chance to play. The junior from Memphis did just what Bill Self needed and the twitter world loved it.

As a matter of fact, Vick is averaging just over 16-points a game along with 7 rebounds through the first 7 games. His 20 points, 7 assists, 8 rebounds and 2 steals were critical to the 76-60 win. Beyond the numbers, he left Syracuse players and fans stunned with his athleticism.

With just under 8-minutes in the game, Devonte Graham found Vick open in back of the Orange zone.  The pass was high. That didn’t keep Vick from going sky high, grabbing it with his left hand and throwing down a massive dunk to the Jayhawks a 64-47 lead.

Fans may not remember that Vick also started that play with a steal. It is difficult to keep track of all the great plays he makes in every game. That was definitely the case in Miami. I’m glad a national television audience had the chance to see his amazing effort.
