Kansas basketball made the right decision on Billy Preston
By Stan Unruh
Kansas basketball fans anxiously wait to see Billy Preston’s Jayhawk regular season debut. How long will they have to keep waiting?
I just about fell out of my chair when I saw the news on Billy Preston from Kansas basketball Tuesday night. As a matter of fact, we had asked followers of @throughthephog twitter account early Tuesday about Preston’s debut? Maybe it’s my fault. On the other hand, I’m glad Preston didn’t play and the Jayhawks edged Kentucky 65-61 in the Champions Classic.
Remember last spring when some criticized coach Bill Self and Kansas basketball for possibly overlooking some disciplinary issues? I didn’t like the negative news that never seemed to end. Talk radio, television broadcasts and especially a local Kansas City paper kept the negative news alive for Kansas basketball fans.
You can’t have it both ways. I’m glad someone decided to hold Preston out of Tuesday night’s game. I don’t know what happened with his car and don’t really care. Coach Self and the university did the right thing. Yes, it’s painful and made me mad. As a matter of fact, how do you think the executives at ESPN felt when they got the news?
There is some good news
The best news according to the university statement on the issue is that they hope to have it resolved as soon as possible. It sounded like they almost had the issue finished Tuesday. I’m just glad Preston didn’t miss a Big 12 conference game.

Teenagers do things that make no sense. They are kids and it’ s irritating but it happens daily everywhere —think UCLA over the past week. Unfortunately for Preston, his minor car mishap is all over social media and had an impact on a nationally televised basketball game. I hope he is available for coach Self on Friday.
