Kansas football: Air Raid grounded at TCU
By Stan Unruh
The 2017 Kansas football season continues to spiral out of control. The Jayhawks lost their 6th straight on Saturday night in Fort Worth.
After a one-point loss to TCU a year ago, Kansas football fans thought the Jayhawks might have a chance Saturday in Fort Worth. As a matter of fact, David Beaty’s team played TCU strong the past three seasons. Three losses by a total of only 11 points. The Frogs made up for those close games on national television Saturday night with a 43-0 win over the Jayhawks.
The Kansas Air Raid offense did nothing at Iowa State a week ago. It got worse. I thought Jayhawk offensive coordinator Doug Meacham wanted to show off against his former team. The exact opposite happened. The Frog defense embarrassed Meacham, Beaty and the Jayhawks from the opening kickoff.
Beaty started quarterback Peyton Bender against the nation’s fourth ranked team. He didn’t throw an interception but he didn’t find many of his receivers either. The Meacham Air Raid offense has been grounded since the third-quarter of the Texas Tech game. Kahlil Herbert did play but didn’t find room to run.
One play summed up the ineptitude of Meacham and the Jayhawks in this one. On the final play of the third quarter, Steven Sims, Jr. attempted to run a reverse. He probably had the option to throw a pass on the play. The Frogs hit him with a 6-yard loss.
The Kansas defense did show signs of improvement. On the other hand, big TCU offensive plays erased some good individual efforts from Clint Bowen’s guys. It is also difficult to give anyone credit when they get blown shut out for a second straight week.

I feel badly for Kansas football fans and very badly for the thirty-seven members of the Kansas football team from Texas. At this point, there are too many questions and few answers. David Beaty can salvage the season with a better performance in the Sunflower Showdown.
