The Kansas basketball season is just days from beginning and fans are focused on next season. Point guard Devon Dotson joins the 2018 recruiting class.

Remember when Kansas basketball fans thought Bill Self lost his recruiting touch?  Jayhawk fans are impatient. Coach Self and his coaching staff may not get all the big name recruits. On the other hand, he gets enough to do the job and is on a role for the 2018 season.

I think all Kansas basketball fans are still celebrating Friday’s news that another Carolina point guard is headed to Lawrence.  The current Carolina point guard Raleigh’s Devonte Graham is ready for a big senior season.  Devon Dotson can step into Graham’s shoes next season.

I don’t always like these player college announcements. As a matter of fact, Dotson did a nice job.  He simply unzipped the sweatshirt to reveal a Jayhawk t-shirt.  It was simple and to the point.  That’s not the way he plays basketball.

It’s simple but he’s all over the place. The 6-foot-1 five-star is as athletic as you can imagine. Yes, he reminds some of Frank Mason.  I’m not sure Dotson has Mason’s bulldog heart and will to succeed.  That remains to be seen. He certainly has the moves and can score.

Kansas 2018 recruiting class impressive

Langston Wertz in the Charlotte Observer writes about Dotson’s play against some of the toughest competition in North Carolina.  He averaged 24 points a game during his junior year.   I wonder if he can play defense? There are no videos of him playing defense.  I’m sure Bill Self and the Jayhawk coaching staff will show him what they expect.

Dotson joins an amazing group already committed to Kansas basketball including highly ranked big men Silvio De Sousa and David McCormack. It’s difficult not to get too excited about next season.  We need to slow down and enjoy Devonte Graham’s senior season.
