Kansas basketball: Border War exhibition a bad idea
By Stan Unruh
Social media exploded Thursday afternoon at the prospect of Kansas basketball in a Border War matchup for charity. Is this a good idea or a trap created by the guys in Columbia?
Kansas basketball fans first saw the hint of a Border War revival on Twitter. I didn’t want to believe it at first, checked several sources and didn’t think much of what I heard. Would Bill Self agree to play a Border War exhibition game at Sprint Center in Kansas City for charity?
The Hall of Fame coach is the most giving guy anywhere. I didn’t think Self would agree to do anything to highlight the traitors who left the Big 12 Conference. He has not commented on the this exhibition. The NCAA has not given their approval either.
Admittedly, some Kansas basketball and football fans miss the Border War. We miss the great games but I agree with coach Self. Why do anything to promote the guys who left the conference. As a matter of fact, Self would love to beat them in an exhibition or as part of a regular non-conference game. On the other hand, he stated over and over he wouldn’t schedule them.
Last summer I wrote how the new Mizzou Athletic Director was begging to resume the Border War. He even assigned responsibility of renewing the contests to new basketball coach Cuonzo Martin. He is their third coach since they abandoned the Big 12. Maybe Martin is working the phones to make this exhibition a reality?
What fans think of the idea.

We conducted a very unscientific poll on Twitter about the rumored exhibition. Over 50 percent said they are absolutely against the game. We all like the idea of raising money for charity and miss the Border War. I don’t care to see Kansas basketball do anything ever with the guys in Columbia. If Bill agrees to this, fine. I don’t have to like it.
