The Kansas volleyball team is ready for Wednesday’s battle with Texas. Ray Bechard’s 9th ranked Jayhawks and the 5th ranked Longhorns will put on an exciting show.

Where are you going to spend Wednesday evening? The biggest sporting event in the state of Kansas is in Lawrence. The two best volleyball teams in the Big 12 will battle at the Horejsi Family Athletics Center starting at 8p.m. It is the game of the year for Ray Bechard’s Jayhawks.  This time his team is the defending Big 12 champions. You know the Longhorns want revenge.

In October of last season, the Jayhawks throttled the Longhorns in a 5-set war for Bechard’s first win in the series in 13-years. The victory led to the Jayhawks first Big 12 Conference title. If you watched, you remember the can’t stay in your seat excitement. I expect Wednesday night’s confrontation will be just as memorable.

Texas is good but both teams have lost a couple of matches this season. The Jayhawks schedule has them more than ready for this challenge.  There is not much of a difference between the #5 and #9 ranking in AVCA Coaches poll. Bechard’s team does bring 16 wins on the season to the contest. Texas only has 12 wins.

In addition, four Jayhawks have already earned top Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors this season. The conference awarded Zoe Hill’ the honor for the first time this week. This all-around overwhelming talent gives the Jayhawks an advantage.

This game is more than television worthy. You can watch on ESPNU. It is the third-time Jayhawks will appear on national television this season. Kansas easily defeated Oklahoma in Norman Saturday 3-1. It is the team’s 19-straight conference victory. I expect a similar outcome when the dust settles Wednesday night.
