Late Night in the Phog is set for Saturday. The annual party to kick off the Kansas basketball season is finally here and should be amazing.

Is this really the 33rd annual Late Night in the Phog?  Kansas basketball fans, players and recruits are fortunate.  The party to kick off the basketball season is finally upon us. You must attend at least once. If you’ve never been to Late Night in the Phog, why not?  I have a crazy schedule and have attended a couple of times.

I flew down Interstate 70 to attend the event several years ago. It was the first time I had the opportunity to get there for the fun. On the way to Allen Fieldhouse, the sports talk radio station announced that Ben McLemore and Jamari Traylor would not play that season.  I almost drove off the highway.

Sitting a couple of rows from the  court,  I waited for the Kansas basketball team or other entertainers to begin the fun. I looked to my immediate left and saw McLemore and Traylor walk to their courtside seats. I was close enough that the look on their faces almost made me cry. It worked out fine in the end but that night was difficult except that Rob Riggle sat near me. You always smile when Riggle is nearby.

Pressure  is on Bechard

This year’s party will be highlighted by wild music from Lil Yachty and much more.  If you can’t attend Spectrum Sports will carry the event live on your TV

starting at 6:30p.m. Other than watching the Jayhawk men’s and women’s teams in action, the biggest story is Brennan Bechard. Can he hit another half-court shot?

For the third-straight year two students will get the opportunity to win $10,000 from Coach Self by making a half-court shot. Bechard, the Director of Basketball Operations will put his two-year success streak on the line. You know he will make it again.
