Raise the Chant raises the pressure on Kansas football
By Stan Unruh
The University of Kansas unveiled their ambitious plan for major renovations at Memorial Stadium. The news adds pressure for the football team to do their part.
Last summer, Kansas Athletic Director Sheahon Zenger promised to announce the plan for big changes at Memorial Stadium. He delivered and now the David Beaty must do the same. The positive signs of improvement in Saturday’s loss to West Virginia are not enough. Fans need to see victories and trips to bowl games.
In addition,
why make an announcement of this importance on a Friday afternoon? That is the time to bury news. Kansas football fans have wanted to hear this news and see the plans for a long time. On the other hand, a Friday afternoon might take some of pressure off of all involved?
Dr. Zenger is good at what he does. Despite some of the huge challenges with the football program, I am glad he is taking action on this enormous project to be finished in phases over five years. The football team should have had an indoor practice facility years ago. Division two programs have them and I’m sure some will be surprised the Jayhawks still need to build one.
The images the university released of the upgrades at Memorial Stadium are impressive. I’m sure most Jayhawks are also happy the Hill remains and is going to become more prominent. That is a unique feature and I’m glad someone actually considered it.

The ‘Raise the Chant’ campaign is great for the university. The football program needs to win to help raise some of the money. Coach Beaty has a fabulous situation in Lawrence. Zenger gave him a huge raise, fabulous facilities and anything else necessary to produce on the field. It is time for Beaty to reward Kansas football fans.
