Kansas football against West Virginia: Preview, how to tune in
By Stan Unruh
The Kansas football team opens Big 12 play Saturday with a against West Virginia. Here is how you can tune in or watch the action.
The Kansas football team has a clean slate as they open Big 12 Conference play Saturday morning. A week ago, the Jayhawks lost a road game to a Mid-American Conference team on the road. Coach David Beaty’s Jayhawks are pleased to get back to Memorial Stadium. They need to put the disappointing non-conference schedule behind them. Saturday’s opponent will present a new set of challenges.
During Tuesday’s media briefing, Beaty expressed the team’s excitement to open conference play. “It’s high stakes,” he said. “It’s about us, not as much about them. We control us.” A pair of MAC teams scored a lot of points on the Jayhawks the past two week. Beaty is still upbeat and has a plan.
"I’m confident in our players and they continue to develop. We have a bunch of young ones here but they are developing."
Mountaineer quarterback Will Grier will test the Jayhawks secondary in new ways Saturday. The junior transfer from Florida is among the Big 12 leaders in total offense. As a matter of fact, Grier is an accurate passer but is also known to run the ball. Defensive coordinator Clint Bowen must rally the troops against the dynamic Mountaineer offense. It’s time for Big 12 preseason defensive player of the year Dorance to have a breakout game.
Here is how to watch or listen to the action.

I expect Kahlil Herbert to start against the Mountaineers. The sophomore running back scored twice and rushed for 140 yards on 19 carries a week ago. A balanced attack against the young West Virginia defensive line should
work well. Peyton Bender’s arm is just as effective as Grier’s arm. On the other hand, Bender must limit turnovers and do a little running himself for the Jayhawks to succeed.
