The popular ESPN ‘C’mon Man’ segment featured the Kansas football team Monday night. David Beaty needs to show the team and use it for motivation.

Kansas football fans who tuned into ESPN’s Monday Night Football pregame show probably wish they’d tuned into anything else. A good book would have been better than what we saw.  The always humorous ESPN ‘C’mon Man’ segment opened with Peyton Bender and the Kansas football team.

Former NFL wide receiver turned ESPN talking head Randy Moss is now one of the Sunday Night Countdown analysts.  As a matter of fact, he also reports from the site of each week’s Monday Night Football game. He opened Monday’s ‘C’mon Man’ segment with the statement, “Ya’ll not gonna believe this first play!  Check this out right here. You talking about messy football, look at this Kansas taking on Ohio.”

The highlight featured Jayhawk Quarterback Peyton Bender lined up several steps behind the center early in the second quarter of Saturday’s game.  On a second down and 11 play, Bender receives the snap from the center. In the blink of an eye, three Bobcat defenders shed their blockers and are on top of the quarterback. Bender didn’t have time to move.

“Man, I’d be mad at my offensive line,” Moss continued. The play resulted in at least a 7-yard loss. Ohio sacked Bender 5 times Saturday for 30 lost yards.  Giving up the sack is bad enough. Seeing the play featured in this way is embarrassing for Kansas football players, coaches and fans.

Make the most of the opportunity

Coach David Beaty and Offensive Line Coach Zach Yenser need to show the offensive line what ESPN showed the nation. I know the coaches are well aware of the play. Now it’s  being used to make fun of the team. If that doesn’t motivate the players, nothing will. With the Big 12 regular season schedule set to open this week, the Kansas football team needs all the motivation necessary. This is embarrassing but a good opportunity.
