It is time for the Kansas football team to win a game on the road. David Beaty believes the Jayhawks can end the losing streak Saturday.

The Kansas football team won their first five games of the 2009 season including a victory over UTEP at the Sun Bowl. As a matter of fact, the Jayhawks were a fingertip catch in the end zone away from winning on the road at Colorado about five weeks later. They should have beaten the Buffaloes that day. I am glad I didn’t know then what we all know now about losing games away from Memorial Stadium.

Head coach David Beaty said during Tuesday’s media briefing he did not think about the 40 game or more road losing streak.  I didn’t believe him. “We do not. Don’t give it a thought. It’s like any other streak,” he bluffed.

"What happened before cannot help you this week. You can learn from it. The losing streak does not breed more losing."

Somebody is going to break that streak. The Kansas football team needs to see significant improvements in many areas to break the nasty streak and win in Athens on Saturday.

Veteran coach Frank Solich is also coming off a tough loss at Purdue. They played Friday and get an extra day to prepare for a home game. That’s just one more advantage against the Jayhawks.  In addition, the fine folks who call the shots— the TV networks changed the game time from a 1p.m. kickoff to 11 a.m. CDT. No fun for the visitors on the road.

The Kansas football team needs to wake up in the Eastern Time zone and attack the Bobcats from the opening kickoff. The defense must be prepared to face a running quarterback and a well balanced offense. The offensive line needs to allow Peyton Bender adequate time to run the Air Raid. It’s time for the Jayhawks to win one on the road.
