Kansas basketball fans were celebrating some good news on Wednesday. Power forward Silvio De Sousa wants to play for Bill Self.

Kansas Jayhawk fans have plenty to smile about. In the first place, the kickoff of the 2017 football season is just hours away.  Late Night basketball is on the horizon. Forget that, we are focused on the 2018 basketball season instead and 5-Star recruit Silvio De Sousa.

When the news broke of De Sousa’s commitment to the Kansas basketball program, the social media universe exploded. It is amazing to see some of the creative things people do on twitter. Some people have too much free time?

I took time to peek at the online fun. Silvio De Sousa is going to look great in Crimson and Blue. The 6-foot 9-inch power forward is attending IMG Academy in Florida.  The ESPN scouting report on him explains all the excitement.

"Powerful and as explosive as the come"

If you haven’t, you need to see video of De Sousa in action. He does as much or more than I expected, moved extremely well with and without the ball and is aggressive. He looks like he would keep the Allen Fieldhouse crowd wound up. Forget Mitchell Robinson, De Sousa is amazing.

How will the De Sousa’s commitment impact further recruiting in the 2018 class? Will Zion Williams look elsewhere or is he just a wing? On the other hand, De Sousa might be the key to help the Jayhawks getting Williams, Devon Dotson and others. With the departure of a number of Jayhawks, Coach Self will need all the talent possible next season.
