David Beaty: Fun at Big 12 football media day
By Stan Unruh
Kansas football fans received a taste of the good things to come Monday. Coach David Beaty received outstanding reviews for his Big 12 Media Day appearance.
Kansas football coach David Beaty is refreshing. Especially after listening to the bragging from those attending the media day events last week for the Atlantic Coach Conference. It sounded a lot like the event for the Southeastern Conference. Beaty keeps his comments real and to the point. His appearance on day one of the Big 12 football media circus was a hit on social media – even trending at one point on Twitter.
As a matter of fact, I expected Beaty to get questions in Texas about his new offensive coordinator. Beaty explained how comforting it is to have Doug Meacham on the staff. Beaty announced Meacham’s hiring away from TCU over the winter. It’s the biggest Kansas football story of the off-season in my opinion. According to Beaty, the players love Meacham.
"They love being around Doug Meacham because he is so much fun and he’s really good at what he’s done."
Considering the talent now on the roster, Meacham will have a big impact on the results in 2017. The offensive line has some experience and is getting some preseason award recognition. There are two or three quarterbacks who can run Meacham’s offense and several outstanding receivers.

Beaty referenced fun consistently during his interrogation on Monday. I know he’s stressed to put a winner on the field. On the other hand, when he talks about fun, I believe him. It’s football and I have always thought football is fun. Winning is more fun than losing. Kansas football fans are ready for more fun in the win column again. I think Beaty has the right mix this season to make that happen.
