Kansas fans, coaches and more did their part to help Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas reach next week’s All-Star Game. A big social media push made the difference.

It is no secret Kansas basketball coach Bill Self is a Kansas City Royals fan.  In addition to basketball, Self knows a thing or two about baseball and All Star games.  You probably remember when Self lined a home run off Olympian Jennie Finch in the All-Star Celebrity softball game.

Self and Kansas football coach David Beaty helped promote the vote for Moustakas.  Both coaches took time on social media to encourage their twitter followers to vote. Any tweet that said #VoteMoose counted toward the final total.  Moose and Justin Turner of Dodgers were the final vote winner.

Moustakas deserved all the help. He is hitting .275 with 25 home runs and over 50 RBIs. His 22nd home run tied a career high. Major League baseball also invited him to participate in the Home Run Derby scheduled for Monday night.

Moustakas appreciated all the attention from Kansas coaches and anyone else who cheers the Royals. In a media release from the club the big hitter said:

"“They are the best fans in baseball. They are great fans and great people. My career has been a rollercoaster and they’ve stuck with me all the way.”"

In 2015, the Royals third baseman earned a trip to the All-Star via the Final Vote promotion.  He earned 19.3 million votes that time and needed just over 15million this time.

I’m sure Jayhawk fans root for many different baseball teams. I prefer the National League but yes, I voted for Moose too. On one thing we can agree- Kansas basketball coach Bill Self is amazing.
