Collin Sexton – Southern Stampede – Nike EYBL

#19 Overall, #2 Point Guard

Here’s the hottest name in the Kansas recruiting sphere – and possibly the national recruiting sphere – Collin Sexton. Sexton exploded onto the scene this summer by leading the EYBL in scoring and then taking home MVP honors from the FIBA U17 World Championships after leading the USA to the gold medal.

What’s his game like?

Sexton is a freak athlete with a great body for a point guard. At 6’2″, he’s built strong and is a real problem for defenders to contend with at the AAU and high school level. In many ways, he reminds us of Kansas’ Frank Mason – a tough, hard-nosed athlete with an incredible instinct for scoring.

He does most of his damage at the rim, where he attacks defenders relentlessly. His first step is excellent, and once he’s past a defender he’s nearly unstoppable. There’s also this – Sexton is wired as one of the best competitors we’ve seen in some time. Like Josh Jackson and Harry Giles in 2016, Sexton brings out the best in others because he’s competes so hard on every possession.

He’ll have to work on his shooting, but it’s by no means bad. Right now, he’s more along the lines “inconsistent” – again, similar to Frank Mason prior to Kansas.

Rumor Central

With him blowing up so much over the past 10 weeks, there doesn’t seem to be a real strong idea as to where this one is headed. Alabama thought they had a leg up as Avery Johnson has really gone after Sexton hard. Kansas has offered and Coach Self left Peach Jam to go out to see him at the Peach Invitational (same area, but satellite sites for that event). Kentucky will most likely try to get involved now as they offered last week. Villanova did the same.

While Kansas has a shot here – and he’d be an excellent fit – this one will take a while to play out.
