Big 12 Basketball: Ranking the Top 12 Incoming Players
By Ryan Noel
Mark Vital – Baylor, Freshman
There aren’t very many players in the 2016 class as athletic as Baylor signee Mark Vital. Vital is an explosive leaper with exceptional all-around athleticism and strength.
The long, 6’6 wing committed to Baylor all the way back in 2013 and finished his high school career ranked in the Top 100 at Scout, Rivals, and 247. His 247Composite rank is #89, which is good enough to have him listed as the #14 small forward in the country.
With Baylor boasting an already plentiful backcourt featuring Ishmail Wainwright, Al Freeman, and transfer Manu Lecomte, it could be hard for Vital to find the floor right away. However, his athleticism and length are a great fit in Scott Drew’s zone – which could mean a hefty amount of early playing time.
Vital will need to work on his overall skill package, though, as he can be over-reliant on his athleticism and strength. How he adapts to playing against equivalent athletes will go a long way to determining how much he plays in his first season in Waco.
