Jarrett Allen – Undecided, Freshman

We are cheating just a bit here by projecting Allen into the Big 12 for next season. Right now, we’ve heard it’s a race between Kansas and Texas (and one we’re hearing Texas will win) – so we jumped the gun and put him in this list.

Whichever team does land him, though, is getting a player ready to step in right away and get playing time.

Allen has good instincts  and touch around the rim, and has shown flashes of putting together a very good skill package in the post. He also has the ability to hit mid-range shots, something both Kansas and Texas are looking for in their big men.

The defensive presence of Allen is what both schools could really utilize right away, though. With Kansas lacking any shotblockers on the roster and Texas losing Cameron Ridley and Prince Ibeh to graduation, Allen’s shotblocking is a precious commodity for either school. He has a reputation for being a prolific blocker despite his aversion to contact down low. While Allen can be soft – and that’s something of a common term when talking to other scouts about him – he has become a great shotblocker in spite of it.
