Big 12 Basketball: Ranking the Top 12 Incoming Players
By Ryan Noel
Kameron McGusty – Oklahoma, Freshman
With Buddy Hield and Isaiah Cousins graduating, you’ll be hard-pressed to find any team losing as much this offseason as Head Coach Lon Kruger. Hield and Cousins provided nearly 30 points and 10 assists per game between them, leaving a huge void needing to be filled in Norman.
So Coach Kruger went out and landed one of the best shooting guard prospects in the country in Texas native Kameron McGusty. McGusty is an outstanding scorer that can do a bit of everything on that end of the floor. More importantly, though, is that he has a great understanding of offense and constantly works and moves to get himself in scoring position. He is one of the few top flight guards that comes into college not needing the ball in his hands to create offense – something Kruger will certainly make the most of.
McGusty also offers some of the same versatility that Cousins offered in that he can play as a lead guard for stretches and facilitate offense with his passing. He is an unselfish player that should fit in really well alongside lead guard Jordan Woodard.
