Brandon McCoy – Center – California Supreme Elite

The other big guy in the Cal Supreme lineup is fast-rising center Brandon McCoy. While teammate Deandre Ayton certainly draws the spotlight, McCoy is quickly becoming one of the hottest big man prospects in the country.

An elite leaper and athlete, McCoy is really impressive in person when you see him running the floor. Standing at 6’11” with good length, he looks to be – at the very least – an elite defensive prospect. He has good timing on his shot-blocking and also showed developing instincts for rebounding on both ends of the floor.

At this point, he has good touch on offense and shows signs of being able to hit jumpers. However, McCoy doesn’t yet have a consistent back-to-the-basket game. His left-shoulder, right-handed hook is coming along well, but he still needs time and space to use it. The potential on offense is evident, but it might take an extra year in college to realize it.

Tier 2

McCoy is firmly in Tier 2 right now, as Kansas has offered and been out to see him quite a bit. The early buzz around him this spring is that he’s not likely to venture far from the west coast, but if Kansas can land his teammate Ayton, then maybe they can convince him to come along too. Maryland, California, Oregon, Arizona, Michigan State, and San Diego State are all involved with him right now.
