Kansas Basketball Recruiting: The Wings – 2017
By Ryan Noel
Brandon Randolph – Shooting Guard – PSA Cardinals
Randolph entered the spring a bit of an unknown on the national stage, but his play so far for PSA Cardinals (Cheick Diallo’s former AAU program) has drawn offers from most of the elite schools. Just since the start of the first open recruiting period, Arizona, Villanova, North Carolina, and Kansas all extended offers.
Randolph is coveted because of his size – 6’6″ – and his elite shooting ability. He has deep range on his jumper and a sound, quick release. Pair that shooting with his high level athleticism, and you have a kid who will likely be a fast riser across all the ranking sites. Right now, he reminds us a little bit of 2016 Arizona commit Terrance Ferguson because of their similar athleticism and range.
Defensively, Randolph can use his length to generate steals and has shown at least some ability to block a few shots. Aside from that, his defensive potential is mostly based on his mobility and fluidity on the floor, as well as his good length and hands.
Tier 1
Randolph currently appears to be a Tier 1 recruit for Kansas as we think they have a good shot at him, and his recruitment appears to be wide open. With Norm Roberts’ connections to that area – and the PSA Cardinals – Kansas has to be considered a contender for his services. He is certainly behind Michael Porter, Jr. on the target list, but we feel like he is someone that could come in alongside Porter and potentially Trae Young.
