The past two games, Frank Mason III has been held scoreless in the first half. In those two games, he also finished with double-digit points.

It’s nothing new as the sophomore has now done so in 19 straight games, averaging 13.3 points to go along with 4.5 APG.

According to the University of Kansas athletics’ official website, that is the fourth-longest streak of its kind under Self.

He may not always be our best player, but I think he’s as valuable as anybody that we’ll have in our squad night in and night out

Mason has improved his scoring by nearly 2.5 times over his freshman season. He also has become the go-to guy when the team needs a bucket.

In the middle of December, Bill Self already knew how important Mason would be to this team.

“We won’t have a more valuable player,” Self told the Kansas City Star then. “He may not always be our best player, but I think he’s as valuable as anybody that we’ll have in our squad night in and night out.”

While any college basketball fan knows there is more to the game than scoring points, they also know that if you don’t score enough, you won’t win the game.

Jayhawk fans can count on their guy from Petersburg, VA to always come through with a solid 10 points or more, even if he makes it interesting at times. If his streak does come to an end though, he can take solace in the fact he might have a future in a dunk contest.
